The atmosphere at Zorbas Restaurant may be resolutely Greek, but from the moment you step inside you are sure to feel right at home, wherever you come from. Owner Michael Haralambos opened Zorbas 35 years ago, and since then it has built up a reputation for being a good, honest, traditional family restaurant. Michael cooks authentic Greek cuisine while his wife Louisa runs the bar, and both offer their customers a very warm welcome.

To start, try the vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs, or the lovely king prawn scordades - juicy prawns smothered in a delicious garlic butter sauce. For my main course, I went for the recommended afelia - pork cooked in wine, flavoured with coriander and cumin - which was cooked to perfection. The tourlou plate, a vegetarian tasting platter consisting of falafel, fried courgette, feta cheese and spinach tart, halloumi and green beans, was also a real treat. If you can manage it, make sure you try one of the traditional Greek desserts - my kataifiwith nuts, cinnamon and shredded pastry was delightful.

Michael has mastered the art of serving great-tasting food at reasonable prices, and the restaurant's rustic, homely feel makes it the perfect destination for a relaxed evening out.
