Opened to great acclaim in spring 2016, Etc… brings Parisian opulence, stylish cocktails and theatrical fusion cuisine to the picturesque seaside town of Penarth. The intimate black and gold interior, with its gilt-framed mirrors and carefully placed greenery, reflects the design background of Alex Mules, while the sophisticated name and the placement of the brand is down to business partner Julia Young (Bakshi). Both set up Etc… in collaboration with multi-award-winning consultant chef Stephen Gomes.
Signature cocktails include Blue Lady, a zingy mix of dry gin, Blue Curacao, lemon, and egg white, and the divine Chelsea Rose, made with Hendricks gin, fresh raspberries, elderflower, and Chambord, topped with apple juice. Cocktails are only £5 from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, making Etc… a great destination for after-work drinks or an end-of-weekend treat.
On both the select à la carte and the five-course tasting menu, the dishes are wittily named masterpieces with plenty to please vegetarians. Willy Wonka features the quirky combination of prawn chocolate cocktail and lemon sea foam, served in a flourish of cinnamon dry ice, while in Cereal Killer the cornflake chicken is amusingly presented in a mini cornflake box. The tasty camel sliders are a popular choice and the bijou Caprese salad bites are elegant in the extreme. Main courses include the delicious Lamb Kokkinisto – succulent Greek-style cinnamon-spiced lamb shank that just falls off the bone – and a superb surf and turf with steak so tender that you could cut it with a butter knife. Desserts are equally spectacular and include the stunning Cariad – a chocolate and hazelnut mousse with Welsh cake ice cream and a halo of spun caramel.
If you prefer a more conventional meal, enjoy smaller plates and sharing dishes in the bar area or visit on Sunday for a traditional lunch. The menus change every three to four months, keeping in tune with the seasons and making sure that there is always something exciting to tempt, and from July 2016, Etc... will be serving afternoon tea.
Whether you’re coming for a few drinks after work, a business meeting, a date or a leisurely dinner for a special occasion, Etc… has something to surprise and delight everyone.
