What's in a name? Why not muse about the significance of the name Two Hats while you sip a drink in the Norfolk Arms Public House and Hotel. Then cast an eye over the fantastic selection of reasonably priced, wholesome dishes. Each dish is prepared and cooked on the premises and you can pick either from the extensive menu or from the specials board, which changes fortnightly to keep regular diners on their toes. Owners Martin and Peter have only recently taken over the restaurant, but they have already made their mark locally, offering beautifully cooked, well-presented food and attracting a loyal clientele.

When I visited, the restaurant was busy, and the air was filled with the buzz of conversation. I began with salmon fishcakes served with leaves and a tangy lime dip, while my partner opted for gorgeous garlic mushrooms. We followed with gammon and a beautifully cooked fillet steak, and rounded things off with homemade apple pie and a delectable treacle pudding.

Meat (including free-range pork) and vegetables are sourced locally, and portions are generous enough to satisfy the hungriest of diners; half portions are available for little ones. In addition to the restaurant menu, there is a takeaway menu offering sandwiches, paninis, wraps and hearty homemade pies.

With great food prepared by skilled chefs, attentive service and fair prices, Martin and Peter are serving up some of the best food for miles around. If you live near The Two Hats, chances are it will already be your favourite pub; if not, perhaps it's time to take a detour.
