Off Newport Road there is a little lane that leads to the Yaki Niku at Seoul House. Unique in Wales, Yaki Niku offers the finest Korean and Japanese delicacies courtesy of chef Kim, a master of Japanese cuisine, and his wife, herself an accomplished Korean chef. At Yaki Niku they combine their skills with the freshest local produce to offer a wholly delicious menu.

The starters of gyoza (crispy Japanese dumplings with a succulent centre) and hobak jun (courgettes in the lightest egg batter), combined with their delicious dipping sauces, were a wonderful introduction to this exotic cuisine.

The Yaki Niku approach to spicy is to flawlessly blend flavours, and the sauce that covered the yum yum chicken main course was sensational. But it's the Korean barbecue (itself called the Yaki Niku) set into each table that makes this restaurant unique. Your selection of meat or seafood is brought to the table to be cooked and combined with chef Kim's secret sauce (an inspired blend of 20 ingredients). Order an accompanying dol-sot-bi-bim-bap (a remarkable blend of vegetables, rice and egg) and you'll satisfy any hunger pangs.

Prices of £3.50 or less for starters and up to £8 for main courses (excluding platters) guarantee a wonderful, affordable meal. Take the time to locate this hidden gem and you'll soon become a regular.
