Caerleon is ancient, dating back as far as the Iron Age, and, although not quite as historic as the village itself, The Bell is very much a part of the local landscape - this converted coaching inn is over 400 years old and is still an immensely popular watering hole for Caerleon locals and those passing through.

The Bell is true to its traditional roots, serving up a seasonally changing menu of comforting classics and an ever rotating range of ales. Voted CAMRA National Cider Pub of the Year 2011, The Bell is the place to come for a tipple or two, with premium lagers, real ales, wines and spirits on offer, as well as the award-winning ciders. The menu has won several awards too, and the accolades are well-deserved. Everything on the bill of fare is made in-house using quality Welsh produce.

You might start with pan-fried scallops with sweetcorn purée, buttered samphire and black pudding, before tucking into a highly recommended main of pan-roasted monkfish in Parma ham with braised puy lentils and spaghetti of vegetables, or the goat's cheese and garden pea risotto. To finish, perhaps indulge in a classic sweet treat such as creme brulée with mini Welsh cakes, or the varied cheeseboard featuring Welsh cheeses, grape chutney, Welsh butter and biscuits
