Park House Restaurant & Wine Bar
Park House Restaurant was established thirteen years ago, but its home is over 100 years old. Housed in a Grade I listed, gothic-style mansion, this restaurant is situated in Cardiff city centre and is steeped in character. The chefs combine the building’s Welsh heritage with their love of fine dining, taking inspiration from French cuisine and pairing the finest Welsh produce with speciality ingredients sourced from the Rungis International Market in central Paris. Alongside the food, Park House also takes great pride in the drinks it serves, and the menu recommends a wine to go with each meal. The exceptional wine list has won several awards in recent years, including the AA Wine List of the Year for Wales and the UK, and Best Wines By the Glass at the 2018’s Condé Nast Johansens Champagne Taittinger awards.
Having recently undergone refurbishment, Park House boasts an incredibly luxurious feel, with wooden panelling adorning the walls and large windows overlooking Gorsedd Gardens. The first floor has also been renovated and is home to a plush new wine bar which offers a fantastic selection of wines by the glass, as well as cocktails. If you’re feeling peckish, order one of the scrumptious snacks from the bar’s menu – perhaps a French cheese plate – and relax in this beautiful setting.
Downstairs, the à la carte menu changes seasonally, ensuring that only the freshest and tastiest ingredients are used. Examples of some of the starters on offer include mouth-watering Orkney scallop served with Jerusalem artichoke, Paris brown mushrooms, fennel seeds and truffles; vegetarian oat milk tofu; and crispy seared pork belly accompanied by shiitake mushrooms, pickled seaweed and smoked eel. To follow, mains may include indulgent dishes such as Highland Wagyu beef, Llaneillo venison loin served with parsley root, black cabbage and pickled apple, and vegetarian confit celeriac. Finally, don’t leave without sampling one of the exemplary desserts on offer. Sweet treats range from tiramisu to lemon and blueberry meringue, while those preferring to end on a savoury note can order one of the restaurant’s delicious cheeseboards.
Another speciality of Park House is the tasting menus, which are available at lunchtime or dinner. Perfect for a special occasion, these menus showcase the chef’s very best dishes. The team is committed to making fi ne dining accessible to all, so vegetarian and vegan tasting menus are also available.
