Cardiff's heritage has come face to face with the modern world in this perfect pocket of cosmopolitan living. This converted Brains brewery, originally home to the very first Brains pub in the 1880s, is now host to a plethora of cafés, restaurants and bars. It's a lovely place to relax over coffee during the day or to gather all your friends together for some fine food and fun in the evening.

The Old Brewery Quarter opens up into a spacious, buzzing arena filled with restaurants offering cuisine from every corner of the world. Look up and you'll see the original brewery vault and clock tower - an impressive sight. All your favourites are here, including Starbucks, Bella Italia, Nando's, La Tasca and Chiquito. For a taste of Portugal, head to Mia Porto Due. Or, if you fancy taking your tastebuds on a culinary tour of Thailand, book a table at Thai Edge. Those with a craving for exotic Indian flavours should take a seat at Spice Quarter, while visitors after a moreish snack can pull up a pew at the ever-popular Pancake House.

The Quarter is not without accolades; in 2005 it was voted 'Best Mixed-Use Regeneration Project' at the Regeneration Awards and 'Best Leisure Regeneration Project' at the Retail & Leisure Property Awards. The Brewery Quarter has certainly not lost its buzz seven years down the line. The Quarter's central location means it is conveniently close to Cardiff's many attractions yet remains a destination in its own right thanks to its amazing range of eateries.

On a sunny day in the piazza-style area you'll feel a million miles away from the city. With the sun beaming down, why not take a seat outside and while away an afternoon, or go all Sex and the City with an evening of cocktails at the Lava Lounge or the stylish Yard Bar before heading to the Polynesia night club. Make sure you reserve a table at your restaurant of choice at weekends - this is a popular haunt. Go to The Old Brewery Quarter's website for a full list of restaurant contact numbers.
