The Hare & Hounds serves good-quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings. Tom Watts-Jones and Alex Howells took over the pub last year and, together with their small yet passionate team, have created a venue that’s become the talk of the town. It has since been named the Best Gastropub at the Cardiff Life Awards for 2016 and Best Pub in South Glamorgan at the 2016 Pub & Bar Awards.
First and foremost, the pub is a thriving watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. It still does exactly that, with a range of great ale, interesting wine and a small, daily changing bar menu. The offering also includes seasonal homemade drinks such as damson gin and rhubarb schnapps.
Alongside the bar menu is a concise, daily changing menu served in the beautifully renovated dining room. Ingredients are sourced from the best Vale producers, and also the venue’s own kitchen garden and smallholding, so you can be assured that every dish has been infl uenced by the seasons. Everything is made from scratch, from the sourdough bread and cultured butter, to charcuterie and fresh pasta.
Diners are alternatively invited to sample the incredible nine-course tasting menu, which is the perfect way to sample a wide selection of wonderful cooking in one evening.
