You'd be hard-pressed to find a more picturesque place to drink and dine than The Blane Valley Inn (which can be found on Facebook). Found amongst the beautiful Campsie Hills in the quaint village of Blanefield, The Blane Valley Inn wouldn't look out of place on a postcard. The charming country-cottage exterior of this 1900s inn promises warming log fires, comfortable sofas and a welcoming atmosphere will be found inside, and it does not deceive. Intimate, cosy seating provides ample space for everyone from couples to families, stunning original carved wooden panelling lines the walls, and friendly staff create that all important welcoming ambience.

The Blane Valley Inn is at the centre of the community it serves - locals flock to enjoy the bar's quiz night every Thursday, and live music on one Saturday night a month. The inn also welcomes ramblers and tourists, most of whom have been visiting the nearby world-famous Loch Lomond. Hungry after a hard day of hiking, walkers can relax by the open fire while devouring one of The Blane Valley's many well-made traditional dishes, before heading back out into the great outdoors. This place is a great ambassador for Scottish fare - people from across the world have found themselves in The Blane Valley Inn looking to refuel.

If it's a light bite you're after, the inn serves a tempting selection of freshly made sandwiches and baked potatoes with a variety of fillings. Those with more of an appetite, meanwhile, can go for two or three courses. Starters include succulent Scottish smoked salmon, potato skins (which are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just as they should be) and, of course, their own version of haggis, neeps and tatties, served in local Glengoyne whisky sauce. For mains, choose from the likes of hearty lasagne, piquant chilli con carne, steak pie and wholesome lamb casserole - comfort food at its very best.

Finish with a traditional favourite like melt-in-the-mouth sticky toffee pudding or moreish apple pie, accompanied by a cockle-warming wee dram of whisky from the fine selection. When it's time to leave, the friendly locals - most of whom have lived in the area for decades - will be happy to offer advice on must-visit local landmarks before you hit the road once more.
