Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
High Street, Peebles, EH45 8AJ
The Tontine Hotel, in the heart of Peebles, was built in 1808. The traditional values of the hotel are kept alive today by owners Kate and Gordon Innes, who provide quality food, drink and lovely accommodation for tourists and locals alike. Meals are served in the Adam Room Restaurant, as well as the bistro and lounge, and, in the evenings, the Tweeddale Shoot Bar is a popular venue for cocktails, locally sourced beers and quality wines by the glass. The traditional dishes on the menu are all prepared with Scottish ingredients, including meat from John Gilmore in Edinburgh, and fish from Welch in Newhaven. Head chef Chris Malcolm presents a popular and varied menu, ranging from classic Broughton beer-battered haddock and chips to confit duck leg, or beef and ale pie to salmon fillet with apple, basil and a lemon butter sauce. There is something to suit everyone at the Tontine.
