Fine fresh food at a friendly local - the Waggon Inn, Kelso, awaits you. Since taking over this centrally located venue in 2006, Joe Wright has drawn on his long experience in the hospitality industry to restyle the Waggon into a welcoming restaurant with wide appeal across all ages.

Whether popping in for a drink, a snack or a full meal, you're guaranteed an enjoyable experience that's both memorable and great value for money. There's The Cottage Menu, for example, offering a selection of ten traditional home-cooked pub classics including pies, pasta and curry at just £8.75. The main menu offers a selection of house specials including a variety of steaks, homemade burgers and a 'taste of Mexico' with nachos, tacos and fajitas.

The lunchtime menu offers a selection of sandwiches - made with locally baked bread - baguettes and ciabattas. If you're up for trying new things, the Waggon's 'oaty pancakes' served with a variety of fillings shouldn't be missed. A senior citizens' lunch special is featured each day and there's a great fresh food kids' menu, with under-twos dining for free. All ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, and there's a great selection for vegetarians, with special diets catered for on request.

It's the children's playroom, however, that really draws families here. The clever seating arrangements mean parents are able to enjoy a relaxing meal and a drink while keeping an eye on their children, making the Sunday carvery at the Waggon a perfect family affair. Coach parties can book in for high teas, and private functions are easily catered for. With live entertainment most weekends, free wireless internet access and a weekly pub quiz on Wednesdays, it's not hard to understand why booking is advisable here - good honest dishes at a reasonable price, with friendly yet professional service, is an experience not to be missed.
