The West End of Glasgow is home to The Cabin Restaurant, one of the city's longest-standing eateries. With a doorway that has seen many hungry Glaswegians come and go since 1890, this nautically inspired venue still holds its own due to the distinctive dining experience on offer.

Exquisite creations are prepared with fresh local produce courtesy of resident chef James. We selected the smoked duck starter with strawberry and balsamic dressing, as well as the seafood chowder with mussels and smoked haddock - these arrived beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. An innovative main in the form of haggis-stuffed chicken breast and whisky cream sauce arrived, alongside guinea fowl with Stornoway black pudding, Dauphinoise potatoes and cider and apple sauce. Both were bursting with flavour and confirmed The Cabin's authenticity. The relaxed, unhurried ambience allowed enough time to savour every course.

To finish, we sailed away on a sweet voyage of discovery by ordering desserts of fresh lime cheesecake and homemade chocolate brownies, although we were tempted by the brioche bread-and-butter pudding. Diverse menus and an obvious passion for excellent cuisine - not to mention great live entertainment on many an evening - are sure to entice you back to The Cabin for more
