Sichuan House is the new gourmet hot spot on Sauchiehall Street, replacing the longstanding China Buffet King. With its array of traditional dishes, upmarket decor and attentive staff, this restaurant exudes class and provides an all-encompassing culinary experience.

The menu, which includes halal chicken and lamb dishes, attracts a diverse clientele, including plenty of local Chinese diners. So whether you prefer a classic meal like sweet and sour chicken, or you like to experiment with more adventurous dishes, such as jellyfish salad, Sichuan House guarantees to have something for everyone.

For starters we ordered the Sichuan spicy chicken and the steamed scallops with vermicelli noodles. The chicken was especially tasty and, as this was a cold dish, it was perfectly refreshing for a summer's day. The steamed scallops were beautifully presented and delivered a complex combination of flavours.

For your main course the salt and chilli soft-shell crab and Sichuan House-style crayfish are especially recommended. Skilfully prepared, the texture of the meat is divine, and the Sichuan sauce is rich and spicy.

Our waitress recommended a pot of flower tea to finish the evening. The tea is made from fresh chrysanthemums imported straight from China, and is deeply soothing. Needless to say, this was the most enjoyable evening
