The people of Glasgow know a good thing when they see (and more importantly, taste) it, returning time and again to this quaint establishment, which houses a deli, café, wine-bar and restaurant under one roof. At the entrance is a small Continental bar where you can eat or drink from early until late; the warm, understated interior makes for an informal Mediterranean-style dining experience and allows the food to take centre stage. This it does to a tee, starting with breakfast favourites such as French toast with grilled bacon and maple syrup. The lunch menu features various sandwiches, such as the halloumi, roasted red pepper and fresh basil combination.

In the evening, finely polished cutlery, linen napkins and professional service give Mise en Place a relaxed ambience. A first course of little crostini with a mixed selection of toppings served with a little pot of olives gives a taste of what is to come. For the main course there is a selection of favourites, including sole goujon and fries with fresh tartare and Cranston's rib-eye with garlic and herb butter. Finally, chocolate and mascarpone cheesecake with chilli raspberries is a must. From a pleasing cup of tea and a slice of cake in the café to sophisticated catering for corporate and private events, Mise en Place delivers on all fronts.
