The Hyde is a hidden gem tucked away at the bottom of Byres Road in the West End. It's a seriously stylish bar and restaurant with a superb cocktail list and an impressive range of menus, including a bill of fare at breakfast that includes treats like eggs royale. Hyde also has the added bonus of a heated roof terrace - a rare find in Glasgow.

The great selection of light bites and starters to share tempted us when we first sat down for our evening reservation, but then the friendly waitress filled us in on the special trio of seafood starter. When you're told that the chef caught the fish himself, you know a dish is going to be fresh. It was also extremely tasty - the plump scallops, rainbow trout with a zingy salad and mussels in a cream and garlic sauce all hit the mark.

For the main course, classics like fajitas and burgers are covered, as well as finer French-inspired dishes such as Gressingham duck with an orange-scented jus. We plumped for a dry-aged sirloin steak that was mouth-wateringly juicy and came with a Béarnaise sauce, and the Caledonia Best-battered haddock and chips. We also couldn't help but order a side of the lobster mac and cheese - this creamy and luxurious creation came packed with lobster, crayfish and king prawns. After such a feast, we vowed to return soon for another helping and a cocktail on the roof terrace
