It's no exaggeration to describe Bibi's as one of Glasgow's most popular restaurants. Belying its position along a quiet stretch of Dumbarton Road, this cosy 30-cover Mexican is packed out every night with local couples and knowledgeable out-of-towners. Character is soaked into every stone wall and harlequin-tiled counter, with super-friendly staff at the heart of proceedings.

Even amid the chatter of conversation and a globe-trotting musical soundtrack, it's possible to hear the fajita platters sizzling well before they reach your table. Main courses are impressively proportioned - those look-at-me fajitas are delivered with four melt-in-the-mouth tortillas and substantial quarter-circles of tomato salsa, grated cheese, chunky guacamole and sour cream. The spicing of dishes like patatas bravas evolves on the palate rather than being instantaneous, while the must-order fish of the day is marinated to flaky perfection in everything from tequila to coriander.

Desserts are cleverly balanced to combine sweet chocolate and cinnamon elements with savoury tortillas and wraps. Most puds are accompanied by super-light vanilla ice cream, apart from the cheesecake and sorbet. Speaking of which, the tiny frozen Margaritas served on arrival set the tone for everything that follows, while the imported Jarritos fruit juices are as authentically Mexican as the dishes served up in this charming West End venue
