Once home to a rustic antique shop, La Vall'e Blanche has absorbed all the charm of its predecessor while adding its own touch of elegance. The interior is warm and welcoming but without clutter; simple table settings with crisp white napkins and minimal cutlery provide a fresh, unpretentious take on the French dining experience. The same can be said for the food - chef Neil Clark (chef profile page 36) adds his own twist to French classics with his culinary flair and unwavering commitment to Scottish produce. Seasonality and sophistication are integral to the restaurant's success and its ever-changing menus consistently receive glowing reviews.

With a variety of menus offered throughout the day, you really are spoilt for choice. What's more, you can expect an ingenious twist on each dish to complement the wonderful flavours of traditional France. Start with wild garlic and potato soup with ham ravioli and goat's cheese cream for a refined take on a peasant dish. Fish lovers begin your meal with a traditional Marseille seafood soup with the addition of delicate lobster oil. Move on to savour the real taste of France with slow-cooked rabbit and Toulouse sausage cassoulet or braised flank of veal with spinach and wild mushrooms. For dessert, refresh the palate with a light rhubarb soufflé and homemade sorbet, or treat yourself to rich and sumptuous warm dark chocolate and hazelnut fondant complete with malted milk chocolate and Baileys ice cream. A platter of Scottish and French cheeses provides a perfect finish to this celebration of Gallic cuisine.

For a less indulgent but equally delicious Continental treat, visit La Vall'e Blanche for a spot of lunch - the prix-fixe menu offers two courses for just £9.95 or three for £12.95. To experience the optimum of French 'bon viveur', you must visit on 14th July to try the Bastille Day menu, a veritable seven-course feast for just £35. A pre-theatre menu is available all year round at £12.95 for two courses or £15.50 for three, and the fantastic à la carte menu is served all day. Simply unmissable.
