Although the story behind this bistro's unusual name dates back to the 1920s - Fanny Trollope was a Brazilian woman who stowed away on a boat bound for Portugal, but ended up in Glasgow - the food served here is pleasingly new, exciting and modern. That's not to say you won't find traditional Scottish fare on the menu - classic Celtic cuisine features in abundance, but with a contemporary twist that makes Fanny Trollope's stand out from the crowd.

Scotland is known for its rich larder, so it stands to reason the culinary team at Fanny Trollope's uses the best quality local ingredients available. This means the menu changes frequently, depending on what the chefs can source, so even loyal regulars (of which there are many) will find something different to try on each visit. Expect the likes of pan-seared pigeon with truffle-scented artichoke purée and a Port reduction to start, followed by mains such as slow-roast shank of Glenfarg lamb marinated in garlic and thyme and served with colcannon potatoes and a roast shallot reduction, or haunch of Perthshire venison, celeriac purée, wild mushrooms and smoked bacon. You might also be lucky enough to catch traditional desserts like homemade clootie dumpling with fresh custard and cream. With atmosphere, charm and character aplenty, Fanny Trollope's is one of Glasgow's most memorable places to enjoy some top Scottish produce.
