It’s hard to find a better spot than The Ship Inn. Located on the Fife coastal path, just down the road from Elie Watersports and round the coast from Earlsferry Links golf course, The Ship is an ideal base for sporting activities, and it is the only pub in Britain to have a cricket team with a pitch on the beach.
Refurbished in 2015, The Ship boasts six stylish, subtly nautical bedrooms, all with sea views, and a spectacular new first-floor restaurant overlooking the bay. The restaurant is already proving very popular, so booking is recommended. In fine weather, the beer garden and new beach bar are ideal, while if the weather is less clement, the main bar offers open fires and wood-burning stoves, and the same fantastic menu as in the restaurant. Service is friendly and dogs are very welcome in the bar and downstairs restaurant.
All the fish and meat are sourced from Scotland, and there is an abundance of local shellfish and seafood, with starters such as smoked haddock, mussel and clam chowder, and squid a la plancha with chorizo. Mains feature perennial favourites such as The Ship’s famous fish and chips as well as seasonally changing dishes such as braised venison pie with creamy mash, and plenty of vegetarian options. Accompany your meal with wine or beer from a large selection and round it off with a pud, an excellent Scottish cheese board or maybe a single malt.
