Thanks to its original sparkle and fantastic array of daytime bites and evening meals, Toast is something of a local dining institution. This hot spot sports an eclectic array of paintings on the wall, and manager John Campbell regularly brings fresh art talent to the walls for customers to admire and purchase, adding to the bistro's signature warm, comfy and character-filled interior that is so loved by Toast devotees. Professional staff mill about this serene and laid-back eatery, delivering service that is polite and polished. The food is inspiring, with delicious flavour combinations, such as my rich seared duck with delicate grape salad and zingy dressing. The shimmering sea bass with colourful seasonal salad looked fabulous and tasted even better, and the orange and Cointreau bread and butter pudding was an innovative twist on a classic dessert. Toast is also open for breakfast and lunch, offering its patrons further opportunities to be wowed by its kitchen team. In the mornings an array of croissants and cooked breakfasts are ready to entice, while, for lunch, a range of well-filled sandwiches is up for grabs. The comically blasé 'other things' section of the lunch menu shouldn't be overlooked either, as its humour houses delights like the smoked salmon, spring onion and spinach frittata. Don't let the name fool you - Toast is a first-class foodie destination
