Chinese and East Asian
In view of Edinburgh Castle, and in the midst of this historic city, sits Edinburgh’s longest-established Thai restaurant. This delightful family-run restaurant was one of the first to open in Edinburgh (back in 1996) and, since relocating to Johnston Terrace in 2005, it has grown in success. The restaurant is modern, uncluttered, comfortable and spacious, leaving the authentic Thai artworks to speak for themselves.
Herbs, spices and vegetables are flown directly from Thailand, and only the best locally sourced Scottish beef, pork and chicken, and fresh fish from Anstruther, are found in their dishes. It’s also comforting to know that the restaurant prides itself on refusing to use MSG in the preparation of any of its dishes.
Thai Orchid’s exciting new menu for 2018 includes some fantastic fresh recipes such as Pedt Makarm: sliced roast duck breast served with tamarind sauce, topped with crispy onions and dried chilli as well as some returning favourites. With separate starter and main course menus for vegetarians, the variety at this restaurant is second to none. Thai Orchid also offers a small, but carefully selected wine list, which complements the food. A warm welcome and the famous Thai smile awaits you at Thai Orchid.
