One of the newest restaurants to hit the Edinburgh scene, Passorn Thai is breathing new life into Thai dining. The restaurant has made a huge impression on the city, and has already built up quite a reputation, having earned stunning reviews from magazines such as <i>The List</i> (Passorn Thai was on their 2010-11 'Hitlist'), <i>The New Statesman</i> and <i>The Skinny</i>, and from both <i>The Scotsman</i> and <i>The Sunday Herald</i> newspapers. The restaurant was also nominated for <i>Ramsay's Best Restaurant</i>, the famous chef's Channel 4 television series.

The success of this restaurant is all thanks to the unique vision and winning personality of its owner, Sirapassorn (known as Cindy), and the dedication and high standards set by all her staff. Cindy has a history in catering; both her parents have run successful restaurants in her home city of Bangkok. Following in her parents' footsteps, Cindy is passionate about serving fresh, authentic, flavourful Thai food. The menu has been carefully created to offer a concise, well-thought-out mix of outstandingly delicious Thai dishes, both contemporary and traditional.

The menu provides excellent variety but avoids the trap of being overwhelming. Cindy's knowledge of Thai cuisine is extensive to say the least, and she offers only the finest dishes, made using authentic Thai herbs and vegetables and the freshest ingredients available. The crispy sea bass salad is clean-flavoured and refreshing, with a wonderful melange of flavours. Also on offer is an entire lamb shank; slowcooked and served in a rich massaman sauce, it is beautifully tender. Not only is the restaurant already renowned for its exceptionally flavourful food, it is also finding fame for artistic flair, with dishes strikingly adorned with banana leaves and carved vegetables. There is also an impressive vegetarian menu and a carefully selected wine list featuring wines from around the world - all very keenly priced. Passorn Thai also offers a superb set lunch menu, as well as a pre-theatre menu - both change on a weekly basis and provide excellent value for money.

Only Thai chefs are employed in the restaurant, ensuring that the traditional and contemporary Thai dishes remain completely authentic and superbly flavoured. This is a restaurant which aims for, and achieves, quality in every area, from the warmth of the welcome through to the expertly prepared and presented dishes.
