The Olive Branch Bistro
When a restaurant has a cheesecake of the day, you'd be a fool not to try it, and we were thoroughly impressed with The Olive Branch's delectable offering, a rich coffee and almond version which contrasted beautifully with the other dessert we ordered, the delectable affogato. These first-rate puddings were the final flourish of a memorable evening that simply flew by - The Olive Branch is a fabulous spot to spend a few hours indulging in superb, Mediterranean-inspired food and wonderful wines while watching the world go by from behind its huge windows. Asparagus spears wrapped in pancetta had started proceedings on a high note, and throughout the evening the superior standards never faltered. The generous chunk of cod atop my chorizo and bean stew came with an excellent salsa verde, while the grilled red mullet came with unexpected yet fitting accompaniments of sweet grilled pineapple and quinoa tabbouleh. The Olive Branch is a relaxed venue that provides a welcome retreat from the bustle of Broughton Place and is open for leisurely brunches, laid-back lunches and unhurried evening meals, all featuring the finest Scottish produce.
