No. 1 The Grange is a labour of love for owners Ryan and Danny, who have instilled a new lease of life into this Edinburgh gastropub. Inside, you’ll find a lighter, brighter atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing afternoons, winding down the weekend with a filling dinner or maybe beginning it with a hearty breakfast. A glance at the breakfast menu hints at the style and finesse you’ll find in the kitchen. Some traditional and unusual Scottish options tempt too. How do Stornoway black pudding, crumpets and poached eggs sound?

Fresh, sustainable and locally sourced ingredients are what head chef Owen Morrice and his team work with in the kitchen. A specials board reflects what’s in season, whether that be fresh mackerel caught off the Scottish coast or local game. Alongside this is a menu full of unique dishes to really test your decision-making skills – there really is something for everyone at No.1 The Grange. Particularly tempting dishes include hoisin jack fruit with pak choi steamed buns, as well as sumptuous rolled rabbit saddle wrapped in bacon accompanied by rabbit leg croquettes. The fish and double-cooked hand-cut chips is a must, thanks to the delicious fresh fish delivered daily from Welch Fishmongers. The dessert menu makes for mouth-watering reading, featuring the likes of poached and charred peach served with chocolate soil, peach sorbet, and chilli and peach gel, alongside lemon curd tart accompanied by black sesame ice cream. The kitchen team also churns a wide range of delicious ice creams including Frangelico liqueur, blueberry and mint, and strawberry and basil, to name but a few.

The wine list has been carefully hand-selected to offer something for every palate. There’s a choice of nine red and white varieties with five of each available by the glass, as well as Prosecco and Champagne. There’s also a great selection of craft beer, and two regularly changing guest ales are always on tap.

The atmosphere is friendly and everyone is welcome here, including families and four-legged friends. With a great vibe, regular live music, mouth-watering food and top-notch drinks, it’s easy to see why diners are returning for more of No. 1 The Grange.
