Seafood is the main attraction at Mussel Inn. I suggest you dive straight in with crab salad. Succulent claw meat is well-matched with pea shoot, fennel and orange, with chilli dressing. Choosing from the extensive selection of main dishes can be difficult. Oysters hailing from the Scottish west coast can be ordered in multiple portion sizes depending on your appetite, as can the pots of mussels, which arrive with freshly baked bread – perfect for dipping. Alternatively, opt for grilled sea bass, or an Orkney rump steak in garlic butter. Menus are regularly reinvented to suit the seasonal ingredients available. Half portions are available during lunchtime, on the ‘quickies’ menu. Visit before attending the theatre and sample the set two- and three-course menus, which are very reasonably priced at £10.95 and £13.95. The tempting homemade desserts are equally impressive. An Americano coffee enjoyed with a slice of chocolate torte, made with orange and almond and served with crème fraîche, is the perfect way to round off a delicious evening. Owing to the choice and quality available, the full three courses is the recommended course of action.

Match your meal with something from the wine list, which features a descriptive selection of fine wine available by the glass or bottle. The whole family is welcome to dine at Mussel Inn, and children’s choices are accompanied by a selection of healthy, sugar-free drinks.
