Located in the heart of the city, just off Edinburgh’s famous Princes Street, you’ll find Miros, a lively, independent Mexican restaurant serving up delicious, authentic cuisine. Tasty food and a vibrant atmosphere have ensured that Miros has been a popular spot with customers since it first opened its doors in 1991. Inside, the decor reflects that of a traditional Mexican eatery – think patterned tablecloths, bright colours and various curios adorning the walls.

The menu offers an extensive range of home-cooked dishes made from locally sourced Scottish ingredients, as well as those imported directly from Mexico. To start, try the iconic guacamole served with homemade corn chips, or perhaps the beautifully fresh ceviche. Follow with the popular fajitas served on a sizzling platter, or pollo en mole poblano, a typical Mexican dish comprising free-range chicken served with rich mole sauce made of various nuts, chillies, spices and chocolate. Other tempting dishes include the albondigas – meatballs simmered in a smoky sauce topped with Oaxacan cheese before being baked in the oven – and borrego con miel, mouth-wateringly succulent lamb slow cooked in Mexican honey and chipotle chillies. To finish your meal on a sweet note, there’s a selection of desserts including tasty churros.

Miros is a popular spot for celebrations and fun evenings out, thanks to its range of Mexican beer, wine and cocktails, as well as several varieties of tequila and mezcal. Particularly delicious are the lime Margarita, and the decadent Medianoche, a delicious blend of Kahlua, Cointreau and vanilla ice cream. During the summer months you can dine al fresco on the terrace. What could be better?
