The Commercial Quay area of Leith is renowned for its superb restaurants, so it was with high hopes that I entered Fatma. I was not disappointed. This young, ambitious eatery offers sublime Lebanese food in stylish surroundings. Its reputation is spreading fast, attracting diners from near and far.

Despite having only been open a matter of months, Fatma has a kitchen and front-of-house team that operates like a well-oiled machine, turning out beautifully presented dishes with real finesse. Only the best, freshest ingredients are used, and all dishes are made to order. Cheese and yoghurt are prepared on the premises, with plans afoot to start making bread and ice cream, too.

We started our meal with mezze dishes, including a delicious plate of hummus topped with pine nuts and succulent lamb pieces, and sawdat djej, which saw chicken livers marinated in pomegranate sauce and flambéed in lemon and garlic. These came with Lebanese bread and a sumptuous selection of side dips.

For mains, we tucked into ferri lebnani, which is a decadent dish of two whole quail sautéed and served with pomegranate sauce and herb rice. We also chose castaleta - a mouth-watering plate of herb-marinated, charcoal-grilled lamb cutlets served with a chilli dipping sauce - delicious. Offering a dining experience like no other, Fatma is destined for great things
