Located on Thistle Street, Iris provides a popular escape from the surrounding retail bustle. Contemporary fusion cuisine is how chef patron Kenny Waugh describes the offerings of his city centre establishment, and this was a style of cooking that we were looking forward to trying.

Iris' menu includes starters such as steamed mussels with toasted pine nuts and bacon in a basil cream, and delicious, sticky pork belly served with pickled baby turnip and lamb's lettuce. Mains like the incredible roasted duck breast served with a Drambuie sauce are equally enticing, and the pork and spinach roulade wrapped in Parma ham and accompanied by an apple and grain mustard is also a must-try. If you have room, Iris' side dishes complement proceedings well, and we found the sweet and sour roasted tomatoes served on the vine and the garlic chips to be particularly noteworthy. Those with an appetite should finish up with the sticky toffee pudding - it is sheer indulgence and lives up to the pud's legacy in every way.

Whether you're looking to take a break from shopping on Princes Street or you want a romantic meal, Iris is the destination to make for
