Known locally as The Espy, this charming venue sits on the picturesque esplanade at Portobello Beach, an idyllic setting with stunning views across the Firth of Forth to Inchkeith island. We began by sampling the delightful homemade ginger beer, followed by a huge plate of crispy nachos, complete with spicy beef chilli, guacamole, pineapple salsa, jalapeños and sour cream. For the main course, I opted for the Espy burger, which was perfectly cooked and stuffed with Camembert cheese and sticky onion jam, while my partner sampled the fabulous Mediterranean salad featuring sunblushed tomatoes, artichokes, olives and toasted seeds. We couldn’t resist dessert, and plumped for two tarts: zesty lemon, and sticky almond and pear, both of which were served with ice cream and were simply delicious. With its relaxed and friendly ambience, The Espy is perfect for a spot of light lunch, a slow, enjoyable dinner or a social drink.
