Earthy offers a unique dining experience that must be tried by all lovers of good food. Across three shops, two delis, a café and a restaurant, Earthy is dedicated to the best quality, fresh seasonal produce that Scotland has to offer. Earthy's atmosphere complements Edinburgh's reputation as a dynamic, stylish and self-aware capital city and maintains a familiar, friendly vibe that keeps folk excited and staff busy.

Situated on Canonmills Bridge is Earthy's restaurant, where we headed one balmy summer's evening. The interior is magical - the warm glow from hanging bulbs makes it feel like you've arrived at a midnight picnic, under a sky illuminated by a thousand stars. The atmosphere is just a prequel to the main event: the food. Starters come in the form of Earthy bites - think chorizo Scotch egg and shrimp fritters with rhubarb relish - which are all individually prepared to order and made for sharing. Earthy's ethos rings true in every mouthful: 'We want to feed people well.'

The dishes change with the seasons and the Scottish mussels with linguine, spinach, garlic and red chilli impressed - perfectly al dente pasta, best complemented by a glass of Sicilian fiano. My partner opted for the maple-glazed Ayrshire pork belly and leek and celeriac cake, with apple and sumac relish. Dessert was a rich and indulgent passion fruit tart served with berry salsa. I recommend leaving room to sample the local cheese plate. Piled with generous samples of various Scottish cheeses, this cheeseboard is an absolute dream.

Earthy's food is of course sourced locally; its fruit and veg comes from organic Phantassie Farm on the outskirts of the city, so the menu is always seasonal. The relaxed informality of Earthy allows for a sociable dining experience that's loved locally. Whether you pop in for a slice of cake and cup of Fairtrade coffee, to stock up your cupboard or for a lovely evening meal, one thing is for sure: Edinburgh just wouldn't be the same without Earthy
