Wander along Edinburgh's charming Castle Street and hop into a lift up to a restaurant that touches the sky. Just a few steps away from the capital's trendy George Street, this is a real beauty spot, where diners can indulge in fairy-tale views of Edinburgh Castle or enjoy a Thai cocktail in the classy bar.

A real melange of the cuisine of the Far East, the set and à la carte menus feature dazzlingly fine ingredients, fused together to create exotic cuisine that's elegant and authentic. Joint-founder Kim Kaewkraikhot says that Chaophraya's motto is 'ow jai sai' or 'from the heart' - and this love is tasted in every bite.

Our starters of king prawns and golden vegetable tempura with palm sugar sauce proved a delectable beginning to our meal. Savouring every bite, we enjoyed stunning views of the city before moving on to our next course. For mains, I went for the chef's luxurious signature dish - massaman lamb curry paired with fragrant, steamed jasmine rice. My guest was equally impressed with his meal - tender tofu in a mild curry sauce, accompanied by coconut milk, chickpeas, cashew nuts and potatoes. Afterwards, we relaxed with drinks in hand - a scrumptious Siam Smile cocktail for myself and a chilled glass of wine for my guest - and deliberated over our final indulgence. Spoilt for choice, my guest opted for Thai pancakes with pandan leaf, coconut caramel and vanilla ice cream. I chose deliciously light bananas in warm coconut milk; a perfect finale for the warm summer's evening. Exquisite fare partnered with impeccable service made for an enchanting meal, and we are planning on returning soon to experience it all again.

Perfect for dinner with family and friends, business lunches, special occasions or a romantic meal under a blanket of stars, Chaophraya guarantees a VIP dining experience from beginning to end. With five more restaurants in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, and Glasgow, the largest Thai restaurant in Europe, Chaophraya is thoroughly impressive
