If you're feeling peckish in the centre of Edinburgh, the answer is in plain sight. Café Piccante, found on Broughton Street just around the corner from St James Shopping Centre, the York Place tram stop and the central Edinburgh railway station, is bang in the middle of the Scottish capital. With a range of cheap and cheerful meals, Café Piccante is a busy and popular stop. The café is an ideal place to grab a quick, tasty meal if you're on the go, waiting for your train out of the city, or just getting back in after a long journey. The café on Broughton Street was the first Café Piccante to open in Edinburgh - owners Selim Sener and Haydar Yildirim have been running it for 14 years now. They were able to open another café at East Norton Place, just on the other side of the gardens, thanks to popular demand and a very successful formula: good food, great prices, efficient service and no nonsense. The staff at Café Piccante are always welcoming and polite, which is one of the reasons people coming back - as is the simple and tasty food, of course. The café serves a wide range of classic chippie favourites, from battered fish, fried chicken and haggis, to burgers, kebabs and pizzas. Rumour has it that Café Piccante was even one of the first places in Edinburgh to sell a deep-fried Mars bar. All the meals available at Café Piccante are made and seasoned with local ingredients and prepared in-house. Despite competing in a busy takeaway market, Café Piccante stands out as one of Edinburgh's more successful small businesses. The Broughton Street branch is licensed to sell beer, wine and spirits, and offers both pickup and delivery services for customers who buy online, making it a very useful one-stop shop for quick food wherever you are in the city. This, coupled with the late opening hours, means that a classic portion of chips is always within easy reach
