The Auld Hoose
The Auld Hoose is a traditional yet quirky pub with a sense of humour. While no under-18s are allowed in the venue, it is a youthful place that appeals to a wide audience. Particularly popular among those who love bands such as Black Flag, Danzig, Deftones, Mastodon, Nitzer Ebb and Tiger Army, The Auld Hoose prides itself on its alternative jukebox. This inviting pub doesn’t take reservations, but the staff are very accommodating and dogs are welcome.
Famous for generously portioned pub classics, Tex-Mex treats, and a wide array of vegan and vegetarian options, the menu truly has something for everyone. Try the legendary Hoose nachos with beef or five-bean chilli topped with cheese, jalapeños, sour cream and guacamole, or the pulled pork, chicken, vegetarian or vegan burritos with rice. Plates piled high with nachos are also available – they serve up to five people and are reportedly the largest nachos in Edinburgh. For dessert you can’t go wrong with the hot chocolate pudding with chocolate ice cream, or a vegan sorbet sundae. Choose from a wide range of ale, craft beer, cider and whisky to accompany your meal, or why not sample from the selection of house wine? Students receive a ten per cent discount on all food purchases. Every Tuesday at 8pm The Auld Hoose hosts a quiz night, so you can think while you drink.
