Amicus Apple is a thoroughly modern venue with a buzzing atmosphere and a casual vibe, making it a popular rendezvous point for friends and couples alike. The newly refurbished interior showcases natural materials and features iridescent metals, reclaimed parquet flooring and delicate crystal bulbs; the resulting look is charmingly eclectic.

Head chef Alistair Wallace has created a versatile and diverse brasserie-style menu. Bar grazers such as salted pretzels, honey cinnamon cashews and sour cream and jalapeno popcorn are ideal for snacking on while enjoying a pint or a glass of wine. Small plates like pan-fried queen scallops with roasted cauliflower purée, diced black pudding and pea-shoot salad, and sandwiches (served until 5pm) such as the Scotch rib-eye ciabatta are satisfying lunch options - although you could go for one of the more filling main courses, as these are available all day. Dishes may include roasted beetroot and Scottish cream cheese dumpling with roasted garlic and herb dressing, and slow-roast belly of pork with an apricot and thyme glaze, served with diced baby potato and cumin-spiced red cabbage.

Under the watchful eye of operations manager Chris Baldwin, the Amicus cocktail offering has taken a twist for the better; homemade sherbets, home-infused spirits, edible cocktails, punches and foams add some Amicus magic to cocktail making and shaking. The many delights on offer at Amicus Apple have to be tried to be fully appreciated
