Goblin Ha' Hotel

Main Street, Gifford, EH41 4QH
If you believe local legend (and have an active imagination) you'll know that Yester Castle was built by an army of goblins; and that the ruins of this imposing castle conceal a cavernous underground chamber, known as Goblin Ha', or Goblin Hall. Though the Goblin Ha' Hotel is named after this famous local monument, it is far from an underground goblin lair - the restaurant is the epitome of comfort, with two roaring fires to warm your toes in winter and a beautiful beer garden in which to while away summer days.

A 'Goblin Combo' is a delicious way to begin - loaded with haggis fritters, chicken wings, garlic bread, tortilla chips, filled potato skins, sour cream and salsa dips, it's big enough to share between two or three hungry friends. Main courses are many, and range from pasta and pizza to traditional dishes like haggis and steak and ale pie. The restaurant also offers a separate children's menu - and of course, that all-important dessert list, which offers tempting treats like deep-dish apple pie and custard, and a particularly boozy Tia Maria tiramisu. To wash it all down, you'll find beers, wines and, of course, whiskies, vying for your attention. Goblins are notoriously mischievous, so thank your lucky stars that the staff here are just the opposite - friendly, welcoming and willing to help. We urge you to book a table and see for yourself why tongues are wagging all over East Lothian about this wonderful place.
