Lower Ground Floor, 20-22 Broad Street, Nottingham, NG1 3AL

Like Malaysia - the cultural melting pot from which it takes inspiration - Nada Budaya welcomes an eclectic mix of people. Diners are attracted by the exotic aromas, colourful dishes and superb service from a dedicated team led by Maziah Omar. Malaysian cuisine blends influences from India and China as well as Southeast Asia; the result is a heady mix of delicate spices and robust flavours. At Nada Budaya, rice, curry, noodle and stir-fry dishes make up most of the bill of fare, with a number of grilled fish, vegetarian and vegan options besides. Nasi lemak - rice cooked in coconut, lemongrass and ginger, and served with sambal, anchovies, egg, peanuts, cucumber and king prawns - is a particular favourite of homesick Malaysians. The shallow-fried sea bass fillet cooked with chilli is an equally delicious spicy, sweet and sour delight. Set menu options are available and early diners can take advantage of the offer of two courses for £12.50 - great for that post-shopping pick-me-up or pre-cinema feast. There are also special deals for lunch at weekends. The restaurant can be hired for private functions and there's also an outside catering option. A noted figure in the arts, proprietor Maziah Omar draws on 30 years of experience promoting Malaysian culture in the UK, hoping to share her passion for authentic Malaysian home cooking. She has succeeded in her quest, and even teaches cookery courses for dedicated followers
