Holder of the Scottish Borders Eating Out Awards' 'Best Newcomer 2008' and 'Best Informal Lunch 2008' accolades, Marmions is one of the Scottish Borders' favourite places to eat, drink and relax - open for lunch, dinner or simply for coffee. This charming brasserie is child friendly and well supported by both the local community and visitors to the area. A warm welcome awaits you when you step through the door, the buzz of conversation buoying you to your table. The owners, Chris and Nicola Kurt, and their staff strive to make your visit both satisfying and happy, and the pride they take in the food and service shines through.

The evening à la carte menu offers a refreshingly unfussy selection of modern European dishes, inspired by local produce and flavours. Crab cakes served with lemon and tarragon mayonnaise provide a light, fresh starter, while the sautéed chicken livers with wild mushrooms, pine nuts and leaves is a rich accord of flavour and texture. Simple combinations enhance quality flavours on the main-course menu. Fillet of salmon is adorned with a white wine and dill sauce and served with lemon-scented potatoes; while venison Wellington is partnered with a rich red wine and chocolate sauce and served with roasted winter vegetables. No Scottish menu would be complete without steak, and Marmions gives you the option of sirloin or rib-eye taken to the chargrill and served with either pepper or blue cheese sauce, onion, mushroom, tomato and chunky chips. Finish with chocolate marquis, complemented perfectly by a piquant raspberry coulis or, if your tooth isn't so sweet, try the selection of Scottish cheeses served with oatcakes.

Marmions is open from 9am with coffees served all day. Lunch is served between noon and 3.30pm offering a wide choice of open sandwiches, ciabatta and focaccia breads with beautiful fillings such as chargrilled steak and balsamic onions, chicken and sun-blushed tomato mayonnaise, and prawn Marie Rose with avocado. Dinner is served from 6pm onwards during the summer months. Sunday opening between 10am and 3pm will be advertised
