Marine Parade, Tankerton, Whitstable, CT5 2BB
The Royal, set on Marine Parade, fits the bill perfectly for a hearty meal and a refreshing drink after a stroll along the seafront. We received a warm welcome from the delightful staff and were quickly shown to our table where, from our comfortable seats, we could view the sea as the evening set in. My husband and I decided to pick our meals from the daily specials board. I started with a plentiful bowl of the freshest mussels, whilst across the table the prawns in crisp filo pastry accompanied by a chilli sauce went down a storm. The main menu was very hard to choose from as there were so many interesting choices. I eventually opted for the roast duck with port and blackberry sauce, which was sublimely tender and totally delicious; and from the 'fresh fish of the day' board my husband enjoyed a delicate dish of sea bass. Both meals were accompanied by generous portions of tender vegetables. With little room left for dessert, I still couldn't resist the tantalising treacle sponge pudding with custard. My husband opted for the lemon brûlée, which he declared 'light and delicious'. Washed down with a local brew, the meal was superb, and The Royal an utter delight.
