This award-winning restaurant in the centre of Yealmpton brings a touch of the harbour to the village. It is decorated to a high standard, with some stunning sea-themed artworks. Roped decking leads you into the cool, whitewashed, timber-lined restaurant with its nautical feel.

Manager Simon Warner and chef Daniel Gillard (see chef profile page 51) proudly present a menu to suit all tastes, for both fish lovers and those preferring meat. The menu changes regularly to reflect the local catch and availability of seasonal produce. Sourcing foods from local producers is something this restaurant prides itself on, and with such resources as the Barbican and Dartmouth Quay on its doorstep, freshness and quality is assured. Fresh bread and rolls are baked every day.

To start, choices include a tian of salmon, baked sardines with apple and celeriac remoulade, moules mariniere and Dartmouth crab; or maybe a homemade terrine of ham hock, chicken, ox tongue and foie gras with apricot chutney. Chutneys, breads and toasts are a real treat here. The main course choices include 'The Seafood Assiette', with a saffron and herb risotto - a dish to please the most discerning diner; or perhaps grey mullet, cod, bream, halibut, or even roasted lamb sourced from a farm in nearby Loddiswell may tempt your tastebuds' Chef Gillard serves his fish and meats with an array of accompaniments, all exquisitely presented. To complete your meal, try a prune and Armagnac soufflé with brandy creme anglaise or a sharp, iced lemon mousse with marinated oranges and shortbread. Or maybe you would prefer a selection of cheeses, from the West Country of course.

There is a small bar area for pre-dinner drinks if you choose, which is well stocked and offers an excellent wine menu of over 40 wines, including a 'special' sourced by manager Simon. The Seafood Restaurant, together with its neighbouring Rose & Crown, present extremely good events - look out for these on their website, booking is recommended. The restaurant prides itself on good value and offers two and three-course set menus at £9.95 and £12.95 respectively.
