The Green, Frampton on Severn, GL2 7DY
Frampton on Severn reputedly has the longest village green in England - and at the far end of it you'll find another of the village's attractions: The Three Horseshoes. This treasured dog-friendly local is the place to come to feel part of this lively community, even if you're just passing through. Perhaps pop out to the garden for a spot of boules, play traditional games by the log fire, or join in at their regular music nights - or simply take a seat in a comfy chair and sip the beverage of your choice from a range of refreshing real ales, ciders and wines.

Landlady Jess offers a value-for-money menu of traditional home-cooked dishes that are just like mother used to make - indeed, all dishes are freshly prepared by Jess's parents. They are famous for their unique '3 Shu' pies, which are made to order and packed with cauliflower cheese at one end, vegetables folded into creamy mash potatoes in the middle and a filling of your choice in the last third (with options including steak and ale, chicken and leek and vegetarian). While my companion chose a classic cottage pie, I plumped for a three-bird '3 Shu' pie, comprising a rich medley of pheasant, partridge and duck. We just had room for a delectably moist syrup sponge with cream, and a moreish sticky toffee pudding with custard. It's a good job Frampton on Severn has the longest village green in England - we needed a stroll after treating ourselves to The Three Horseshoes' plentiful fare
