The Marcia Inn
The handsome Marcia Inn lies in the heart of beautiful Bishopthorpe. Owners Gary and Linda pride themselves on delivering high-quality pub grub with warm, friendly service to match. Inside, the pub, which has retained its place in the Good Beer Guide for four years running, is spacious but cosy: think leather chairs, a wood-burning fire, wood-panelled walls and exposed brickwork. It’s a snug atmosphere in which to unwind.
The core menu offers a range of British classics like the best-selling steak and ale pie made with locally sourced beef; haddock and chips, and homemade fish pie. There’s also a specials board featuring tempting seasonal dishes made with locally sourced produce that allow head chef Nick Petch’s skills to really shine. Meals are beautifully presented and generous servings will please even the most ravenous appetite. The Cask Marque-accredited inn also boasts a large beer garden with a children’s playground, and a canopied area where people gather for barbecues and beer festivals in the summer. What’s more, it’s scooped the CAMRA Country Pub of the Season and Punch Taverns’ Regional Pub awards, alongside an award for their fish and chips at The Seafish National Fish & Chip Awards. The team can cater for all manner of occasions in the separate function room, and can provide a buffet service. Weekly events such as quiz nights, live gigs and live Sky Sports events shown in the separate bar area attract the crowds further.
