Woolpack Country Inn
With its tempting selection of home-cooked favourites, coupled with attentive service and a countryside setting, the Woolpack really ticks every box. This pretty inn boasts a homely setting where relaxation and a warm welcome are inevitable. Settle down for a meal with friends or family, or just while away an hour with a pint. All the food is prepared using fresh, local produce and the starters are so generously proportioned that they could certainly hold their own as main meals. The creamy garlic mushrooms were extremely tasty, and the breaded calamari served with lemon mayonnaise was delicate yet packed with flavour. The mains didn’t disappoint either: from the grill menu we sampled a succulent, hand-pressed burger topped with cheese and bacon and served with seasoned hand-cut fries. The chicken chasseur from the main menu comprised stuffed chicken thighs and breast with lashings of rich tomato sauce, served with mash and seasonal vegetables. For dessert, the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream was rich and decadent, while the lemon and lime posset proved to be the perfect palate-cleansing finale to a classic, hearty meal.
Several guest bedrooms are available for those wanting to stay a little longer and explore the surrounding area. It’s no surprise that locals and visitors love this charming country inn, with its fresh, tasty fare and superb selection of drinks. Make sure you add the Woolpack to your must-visit list.
