Opened in summer 2016 by husband-and-wife team Adam and Katie, Source serves up delicious, homemade and healthy food, cleverly crafted from locally sourced ingredients. We went midweek and the place was buzzing. There is an abundance of dishes for vegetarians but also more than enough to keep the keenest carnivore happy. Any cynics of healthy food will be surprised at the innovative combinations at Source, which are packed with enough different flavours to please even the most discerning palate. The menu varies from superfood salads to succulent burgers; slow-cooked meats to pulled jackfruit and grilled halloumi. I started with lime-grilled avocado with warm bread while my dining partner tucked into the Source platter: a hearty assortment of marinated olives, hummus, charred vegetables, blushing pickled eggs and freshly baked bread. We then chose to share the aptly named low and slow tray, which comprises pulled pork, 48-hour beef brisket and spiced shredded chicken – all cooked slowly at a low heat for optimal tenderness. You can have any of the items on the tray on their own, with freshly baked cornbread, fries and house slaw on the side. For dessert, I opted for the chocolate, banana and chia pudding and my partner enjoyed a mouth-watering strawberry ripple meringue. Source offers healthy, innovative cooking at its best, and to top it off, the extensive wine list is well priced and the service is superb.
