Having received a £235,000 investment, Towers Restaurant and Bar at Hilton York offers a fresh new look and a modern approach to food and restaurant design.

Gary Morrison, hotel manager, says, 'Towers is a smartly designed bar and restaurant with a bright and informal atmosphere, serving relaxed food using fresh seasonal produce', and he is exactly right. The interior has been give a chic new image with a colour scheme designed to be both fresh and opulent, and clean-lined contemporary furnishings, which offer both style and comfort in equal measure. Attention to detail is paramount, with each table accented by a fresh orchid and immaculate place settings. The menu is designed with equal care in order to cater for a variety of dining needs - for those on the run as much as those wishing to ponder over their dining experience.

Tempting options from the à la carte menu, which changes on a regular basis, (correct at the time of going to print) included starters such as baked flat-capped mushroom filled with spinach, ricotta and smoked bacon, and delectable pan-seared queen scallops with a cauliflower purée and a sweet pea cream. Before moving on, why not try the Towers' signature 'Polo' mint sorbet - guaranteed to refresh the tastebuds in preparation for your next course. Main courses offer a number of grill options, pasta dishes and classic European fare with a unique Towers accent. So, whether you plump for tempura cod, chipped potatoes and pea compote, or rib-eye steak with chive butter, you'll find quality ingredients that have been treated by an expert hand.

To complement the à la carte menu, there are a number of daily specials such as a starter of smoked venison with mulled wine and fruits (£6.25) and main courses such as pan-fried belly pork with braised cabbage, haggis and potato purée (£15.50). To celebrate the re-launch of the restaurant and bar, a superb special offer of three courses for £20 is currently being offered (supplements applicable). So for taste, style and affordability, I'd wager that Towers is head and shoulders above the rest.
