Thida Thai Cuisine
Chinese and East Asian
16 George Hudson Street, York, YO1 6LP
For a meal with a difference, combining the unsurpassed flavours of Thailand with a warm and friendly ambience, there can only be one restaurant in York that fits the bill and that's Thida Thai Cuisine. Offering a delightful range of healthy dishes that includes speciality curries, meat and poultry favourites, an impressive array of vegetarian options, duck and seafood in abundance, rice and noodles and exciting set menus and express lunches (two courses £6.50), you can be assured that a meal at the city's premier Thai will be a memorable one. Top-drawer cuisine comes in at a surprisingly affordable price too with Thai hot and sour soup in a fragrant coconut milk with mushrooms at just £3.95, and other starters bearing similar fair-handed pricing. Mains are a snip at only £6.25 up, representing astounding value for such high quality, carefully prepared meals. Recommendations surely feature satay kai - marinated chicken on skewers grilled over charcoal and served with a peanut sauce (£4.50) and tod mum kaow pod - deep-fried sweetcorn cakes paired with a sweet chilli dip (£4.50). Both combine a high degree of know-how in the kitchen with an even higher wow factor on the plate. Main courses manage subtlety with a heavenly mix of ingredients in every dish. Portions are generous, colours spectacular and the satisfaction quotient off the scale. Order gang massaman (£6.95-£8.50) - a southern Thai yellow curry with a choice of fish, chicken, pork, beef, duck or prawn, plus a delicate hit of peanut and you're in for a treat. The pad khing (£6.95-£8.50) - stir-fried fresh ginger prawns and vegetables is equally pleasing. All in all, Thida Thai Cuisine seems to have found the perfect recipe for success.
