The Magpie Cafe
Fish and Chips
No trip to Whitby would be complete without a stroll along the pier and a visit to the gorgeous Magpie Café, which is renowned for its high-quality offering of fish and chips, seafood chowder and other seafood dishes made using the finest locally sourced fish. Housed in an attractive 18th-century building that overlooks the harbour, The Magpie is perfectly positioned to reap the rewards of the daily catch, ensuring that everything served is fresh and delicious. Presumably it’s this fantastic reputation and excellent quality food that earned The Magpie Café a place in The Good Food Guide for 2017.
With an extensive selection of responsibly sourced fish to choose from, the menu has something for everyone. Start with the fresh soup of the day, your choice of kipper, crab or smoked salmon pâté, served with crusty bread and homemade chutney, or the steamed fresh mussels, served in a wine, cream and garlic sauce with warm ciabatta on the side. For your main, perhaps you’ll opt for the Magpie trio: lemon sole, salmon and king scallops, poached in a light white wine, chive and lemon butter and served on wilted spinach with your choice of potatoes or salad. Although seafood is The Magpie’s speciality, you can also opt for vegetarian and vegan options such as vegetable paella. If you’ve got your heart set on a classic portion of fish and chips, you’re in for a real treat. There’s an impressive array of fish to choose from as well as the option of gluten-free batter.
