Located in Pickering, an ancient market town and gateway to the North York Moors, Willowgate Bistro is a charming venue serving beautifully presented, top-notch food. Proprietors Matthew and Gemma Bird took on Willowgate Bistro in 2013 and have successfully transformed it into a relaxed and modern bistro. Everything is homemade using locally sourced produce. From the fresh bread to the chocolates that accompany the bill, everything is made by hand with care and attention to detail. Start with the likes of pan-seared scallops with black pudding, cauliflower purée, and baked apple and cinnamon crisps. For a refined, classic main try the slow-roasted lamb shank with Dauphinoise potatoes, seasonal veg and redcurrant jus. There are separate gluten-free and vegetarian menus, which offer plenty of choice, including homemade desserts such as vanilla crème brûlée with mocha foam. Children are welcome in the restaurant until 7pm and have their own menu to choose from.
