Located in the charming village of Rhoose, Raj Kinara is tucked between the sea and a local leisure centre. But upon stepping down the stone walkway, the restaurant seems worlds away from this small Welsh community.

A modern bar to the right of the entryway welcomes patrons and in the centre of the room stands a soothing bronze fountain. The circular configuration of tables makes every table the best table in the house.

A quick perusal of the menu reveals many familiar dishes. My immediate inclination was to order chicken korma, but a very helpful waiter guided us away from familiarity. Still, we gave into poppadoms, which were crispy, light and perfectly salted. We began our meal with succulent fried king prawns and the Rajasthani platter, which consisted of delicately spiced lamb and tender chicken glazed in a beautifully balanced sweet and sour sauce. For mains, we shared the chasni chicken - an intricate blend of lemon, green chillies and fresh coriander - as well as a chicken tikka. I relished dipping the warm, fluffy naan into the creamy and full-bodied tikka sauce.

We finished our meal with a mango creme brulée, which was the perfect representation of how this restaurant blends tradition and creativity together so effortlessly.
