Lindsay Williamson is ready to welcome one and all to The Crown Hotel in Hawes. It's plain to see that since moving in Lindsay has put a lot of work into making her pub a town hub that locals appreciate. As a hands-on owner who's always front of house or behind the bar, her efforts have paid off, with the pub receiving a string of excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.

Lindsay's successes are helped by head chef David Farrar, whose dynamic approach to cooking, natural flair and knowledge translate into fantastic plates of food. All ingredients are locally sourced (apart from the scampi, which is from the famous fishing town of Whitby), as having a small carbon footprint, being able to trace the provenance of the food served and supporting local businesses are important considerations at this pub. The produce goes into creating dishes for The Crown's two menus: the daily-changing specials board and the regular menu. The former is used as a platform for creating palate-tempting and interesting dishes from forgotten cuts of meat, such as ox cheek and Scarborough woof (wolffish).

From the standard menu, popular starters include warm black pudding salad with bacon and new potatoes, Yorkshire pudding with gravy, and homemade chicken liver pâté. Main courses like steak and ale pie made with Theakston's Old Peculier ale, and the trio of local sausages, which varies depending on what the local butcher provides, are all options that make you sit up and pay attention.

Drinks-wise, The Crown offer six hand-pulled ales, five of which come from Theakston Brewery, while the spare space is reserved for a weekly guest ale that is themed to events and the seasons. If you fancy trying all six, then you are welcome to stay in one of the four bed and breakfast rooms available for hire. If you have a dog in tow, your pet will stay for free and get some sausages in the morning too. There's even secure overnight storage for bikes and motorbikes.

As The Crown is open and serves food every day of the year, and has its own beer garden, fast and free Wi-Fi, three open fires and monthly themed food nights, there's no earthly reason as to why you shouldn't be making a trip here
