You might at first consider the name 'Murgatroyds' to be a strange choice for a seafood restaurant; but delve into the history of Yeadon and all will become clear. Billy Murgatroyd was an enterprising sort who played an instrumental part in putting the town of Yeadon on the map in the 1870s. His mill was on the site where the restaurant is today, and the spirit of 'Billy Murg' lives on in the famous Murgatroyds.

The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of room for loyal returning customers as well as new visitors. The licensed bar boasts an assortment of hot beverages, liqueur coffees, milkshakes and chilled fruit juices - the list is endless. It's the ideal spot to sip a chilled beer or glass of wine as you peruse the delicious and varied menu.

Starters are largely seafood based, but also feature alternatives to fish dishes, including mushroom Stilton melt, crisp chicken wings baked in honey and lemon, and a giant Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy. Why not try the Whitby wholetail luxury scampi from the house specials? Or perhaps the aptly named Big 'Un, a giant haddock fillet fried in crispy batter, which is guaranteed to satisfy even the largest of appetites. For those who'd like something a little lighter, the refreshing salad menu offers just that. Particularly worth a try are the royal Greenland prawns - generously laid across a bed of crisp lettuce with coleslaw, tomato, pepper, onion and Marie Rose sauce. Almost every dessert imaginable is available, with everything from American pecan pie, to various cheesecakes and gateaux. Whatever takes your fancy, Murgatroyds is sure to have it.

Coach parties are welcome and Murgatroyds provides the ideal venue for special occasions. So don't miss out on this fantastic restaurant. As Billy himself once said: 'Why settle for less than t'best?'
